Useful links to professional training bodies

The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) offers training programmes such as CPSS and QCF, as described below. More details are also available on the BICs website http://www.bics.org.uk/.

CPSS Qualification

Launched in March 2011, the Cleaning Professionals Skills Suite (CPSS) is becoming the most widely used cleaning qualification in the UK and internationally.

The CPSS qualification includes three mandatory units, designed to ensure the safety of the cleaning operatives and the users of the building, and for the sustainability of the building.

Additional core skills available cover skills such as mop sweeping, wall washing and glass cleaning.

Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) is the latest way for individuals to gain regulated achievements. BICSc is continually developing its portfolio of qualifications which are regulated by Ofqual.

The BICSc Level 1 Certificate in Cleaning is its first qualification which has been registered on the framework.

The qualification is unique in that it requires the candidate to demonstrate their competency using traditional BICSc cleaning techniques, knowledge and skills; something that other similar regulated qualifications do not require.

This competency is demonstrated in a non-simulated workplace setting, thus it demonstrates to current and future employers of a person competency in the workplace.
