COVID-19 Guidance

As the Covid-19 pandemic highlights the importance of cleaning and hygiene to protect our health, Cleansmart has put together lots of information on how to keep your home clean and safe.

We have published news articles related to Covid-19, including Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance and Guidance on the safe use of disinfectants.

Our page on Hygiene — the Golden Rules for 21st century homes has useful advice about how you can stop germs spreading in your home and causing infection.

Home safety

It is also important to remember our Golden rules for cleaning safely – always follow the instructions to be sure that what you’re using, or what you’re doing, won’t cause any harm.

With children at home more than usual, remember to use and store your cleaning products safely, out of reach of children. Our projects including Take Action Today Put Them Away, in partnership with RoSPA, and Keep Caps from Kids have lots of tips to help you keep your home safe for children.

Useful sources of information

The International Scientific Forum on Home Hygiene (IFH) has published Covid-19 advice, including what you can do to protect yourself against infection – and how to make sure you do not spread infection to others and what “Wash your hands frequently or use a hand sanitizer” actually means for you.

The Hygiene Doctor, Dr Lisa Ackerley has a blog with COVID-19 hygiene tips.

Public Health England has published guidelines which include advice on cleaning and hygiene: “Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces using your regular cleaning products to reduce the risk of passing the infection on to other people”.

Handwashing for children

Hand washing still plays a key role in protecting yourself and others from Covid-19. UKCPI’s Hooray for Handwashing programme is designed for 4-7 year olds as a fun and easy way to teach children good health habits.

The e-bug project has a page on Covid-19 with information for children and young people. Led by Public Health England, e-bug was set up to educate children across the globe about microbiology, hygiene and the spread, treatment and prevention of disease.
