International Infection Prevention Week

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

To mark International Infection Prevention Week (Oct 16-22), the International Scientific Forum on Home Hygiene (IFH) has launched a learning resource to help people understand how to stop the transmission of infections.

Breaking the Chain of Infection explains the basics of effective hygiene in home and everyday life, and is intended to help people to visualise how infections are spread and how hygiene can break the chain of infection.

The material has been created using simple, non-technical language, so it can be understood by most people.

Infectious diseases have a major impact on our health and prosperity, but much of this could be prevented through good hygiene. A key part of this reducing the burden of infection is reducing the spread of harmful microbes in our homes and everyday lives.

About IFH

IFH is the leading scientific authority on home hygiene, and was established in 1997 to promote health and wellbeing through improved hygiene in home and everyday life settings.

It is chaired by Professor Sally Bloomfield, Honorary Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and includes on its board experts from all over the world.
