What do the labels mean on my cleaning product?

Cleaning product packaging has a wealth of information to help you choose the product and use it safely and sustainably.

Some of this tells you what the product is, what it does and how much cleaning you get for your money. There’s also important information on how to use the product so you get the best out of it, a summary of ingredients and tips for safe use. Sometimes there is legally required information on hazards.

Click here for a detailed guide explaining everything you’re likely to find on the pack. There are three detailed examples for a machine dishwashing detergent, a laundry detergent refill pack and an all purpose cleaner. Running your cursor over the packs will show you what each bit of information is about.

Remember, the first and most important step to safe and sustainable cleaning is reading and understanding the label!

Myth Busters

Did you know the facts behind this common myth?

Myth: It doesn’t make much difference whether my laundry load is full or not

Fact: Only 49% of wash loads are fully loaded in Europe. If all loads were washed full, 715 million litres of water a day would be saved – the equivalent water used by 5 million people, or a city the size of Barcelona.
