How UKCPI Works for Its Members
A Council of up to 20 annually elected Member Companies govern the UKCPI. The UKCPI Council is responsible for establishing policy and strategic direction, as well as a sound financial basis for the Association. The majority of UKCPI's work is carried out by Committees staffed by Member Companies and the Secretariat.
These Committees and task forces cover a wide range of subjects working through two key steering committees covering Technical and External Affairs. Expert Groups and Task Forces are set up as necessary by the Committees to handle specific areas such as communication and implementing Legislation.
Communication with all Members and organisation of the UKCPI is handled by the small Secretariat consisting of Director General, Technical Manager and Personal Assistant. This communication includes direct individual contact, Regional Meetings, Fast Information Service by email and Members Extranet.
Links are maintained with other trade associations such as The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA), British Association for Chemical Specialities (BACS), British Aerosol Manufacturers' Association (BAMA), and the Chemical Industries Association (CIA).
The UKCPI is the only UK representative and one of the largest members of the European Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products (AISE), which represents the Industry at European level. The Association plays an increasingly active role in its European Association, being represented on many of its Committees.
Additionally UKCPI is represented on a large range of external bodies, including:
- Alliance of Industry Associations (AIA)
- British Business Bureau (BBB)
- British Standards Institution (BSi)
- Chemicals Regulatory Forum (CRF)
- Confederation of British Industry (CBI)
- Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment (INCPEN)
All Party Parliamentary Group
The All Party Parliamentary Group for the Cleaning and Hygiene Industry, chaired by Ben Chapman MP, provides Industry with key strategic links between the Industry and interested Members of both Houses of Parliament. The UKCPI liaises closely with many Government Departments including: Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
MEP Contact Forum
The UKCPI has a cross-party European MEP Contact Forum which provides a excellent means of informing relevant UK MEP's of issues impacting the Industry and enlisting their support over the Industry concerns about new Industry Legislation.
External Affairs
UKCPI is active in promoting the reputation of the Industry, by informing the media, consumer and environmental organisations, MPs, local authorities and schools about its Industry and sustainability initiatives.
